    Erbil (Kurdistan 24) - Director of the Center for Political and Military Analysis at the Hudson Institute, Richard Weitz, confirmed on Friday that Iraq cannot stand on its feet merely in the absence of American support.
    Weitz said in an interview with Kurdistan 24, "The United States of America entered Iraq under the pretext of the presence of weapons of mass destruction, and succeeded in overthrowing Saddam Hussein's regime."
    The director of the Center for Political and Military Analysis at the Hudson Institute pointed out that "the withdrawal of American forces from Iraq is not the demand of all Iraqis, especially the Kurds and Sunni Arabs."
    Weitz stressed that "the Shiites now control all aspects of power, but some Shiites also did not clearly demand Washington's withdrawal from the country, with the exception of those loyal to Iran."
    He explained, "Iraq cannot stand on its feet simply by the absence of American support, but this issue is related to the desire of the main components of the country."
    He added: "Do the Sunnis consider the current federal government to represent them, or do they want to declare their own region?", noting that "in contrast, the Kurdistan Region has a clear policy regarding what the region wants."
    He said, "After the withdrawal of the United States of America from Iraq, the dominance of both Iran and Saudi Arabia in the country will increase," stressing that "the indicators related to the country's future are not good."
    Weitz said, "It is now difficult for the Sunnis to obtain their own region similar to the Kurdistan Region, because they do not enjoy security and financial stability, and they do not have sufficient power like the Kurdistan Region."
    He concluded his speech by saying: "Therefore, Biden's policy has changed, and there is no longer any talk about dividing Iraq into several regions, as was previously being discussed in the US Congress."
