National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Araji summarized Iraq's efforts to combat terrorism in 19 points during his participation in the Antalya Diplomatic Forum held in Turkey.
A statement from Al-Araji’s office said:
The most prominent points of the speech of the National Security Advisor, Mr. Qasim Al-Araji, during the dialogue session at the Antalya Diplomatic Forum held in Turkey, tagged (New Challenges in Combating Terrorism), are as follows:
• There is no unified definition of terrorism, and there are political agendas that define terrorism according to the mood of each country.
• Iraq regained its lands from the terrorist ISIS and returned meals from Iraqi families from the Syrian Al-Hawl camp to their original areas and worked to integrate them into society.
• The Syrian Democratic Forces control the Syrian Al-Hawl camp from the outside environment only, but from the inside it is controlled by terrorists, and the camp contains foreign terrorists from 60 countries.
• Iraq returned 1,924 Iraqi families from Al-Hawl camp, including 7,556 Iraqi citizens, of which 1,230 Iraqi families returned to their original areas voluntarily, and the remainder are undergoing rehabilitation in Al-Jadaa camp.
• We have begun the process of integrating the returning families into society in cooperation with the families according to rehabilitation programs. We have not recorded any security or social problems in the areas of return, and we are working to return the 14th group voluntarily to begin working on community integration with them.
• There are 20,000 Iraqis under the age of 18 in Al-Hawl camp, and they are prepared to be time bombs in the future, and the human, financial and media sources of terrorism must be dried up in cooperation with the international community.
• The Iraqi government distinguishes between those who carried out terrorism and those who were victims.
• Diplomacy must be the solution before the outbreak of wars and conflicts, not after them.
• We have a national committee to combat violent extremism that leads to terrorism, which works according to a well-thought-out and highly professional strategy.
• The government of Mr. Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani attaches great importance to community peace and resettlement.
• Iraq has gained great experience in confronting terrorism and how to deal with it, and we need the cooperation of countries to benefit from technology and cybersecurity, to confront terrorists who threaten state institutions.
• Terrorism crosses borders, and cooperation between countries is required and very important to eliminate it.
• Iraq signed 23 memorandums of understanding with countries in the security field, to ensure the security and stability of the region and the world.
• There were armed groups attacking neighboring Iran, and it was agreed to remove those groups in accordance with a security agreement with neighboring Iran. We will work on this experience with the Turkish government, to remove the danger of the threat from neighboring Turkey and prevent any terrorist acts that harm neighboring countries and the interests of Iraq.
• Cooperation between countries, exchanging ideas and information, and benefiting from the experiences of others helps us a lot in the intelligence and security field and warding off danger from our countries, the countries of the region, and the world.
• Iraq has good intentions and a real will to implement security agreements with countries, and we were able to inform a number of friendly countries about the presence of terrorists who intend to carry out terrorist operations within those countries.
• Security and intelligence cooperation between countries reduces costs, shortens time, and achieves quick results, to repel potential terrorist threats.
• Iraq helped a lot in bringing viewpoints closer between countries.
• We have intelligence and security cooperation with Turkey, and there are real stories that are the fruits of this cooperation.
