    Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil Hayan Abdul-Ghani inaugurated, on Thursday, the first phase of the associated water injection project in the Rumaila field.
    A statement by the ministry, seen by "Al-Eqtisad News", stated that "Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil Hayan Abdul-Ghani inaugurated the first phase of the project to re-treat and treat associated water and reinject it into the northern Rumaila field, with a capacity of 300,000 barrels per day.

    Abdul-Ghani said during the inauguration: "This project aims to achieve our economic and environmental plans, by investing water in the process of recycling it and re-pumping it after treatment; for the purpose of using it in the process of reservoir pressure again in the oil fields and reducing the waste of river water or encroachment upon it."

    The minister pointed out, "The government and the ministry's interest in these projects to achieve their economic and environmental goals," indicating, "The ministry is currently implementing a seawater treatment project, within the contracts of the integrated southern project planned to be completed in 2028, with a capacity of 5 million barrels of water in cooperation with Total Energy."

    He pointed out that, "The project aims to provide potable water and pump it into the oil fields for reservoir pressure purposes after treating and desalinating it."
