The Ministry of Transport revealed, on Friday, its latest steps towards lifting the European ban on Iraqi Airways.
The ministry's spokesman, Maitham Al-Safi, said that "the Ministry of Transport has practical and important steps to lift the European ban on Iraqi Airways," noting that "this comes through a number of corrective measures."
He added that "the Iraqi Airways Company signed a consulting and executive contract with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in the past few days," indicating that "the implementation of the contract's terms will be within a month of its signing, followed by the signing of the second phase contract, known as "the cup," which is the corrective measures, and it is considered the second step in the steps to meet the requirements for lifting the European ban, which has specific time limits."
He explained that "these steps come in the context of obtaining the international OSHA certificate and the third-class operator certificate "TCO", stressing that "these procedures will contribute to raising the level of safety performance at Iraqi Airways and also contribute to paving the way for the company's return to membership in the International Air Transport Association (IATA)."
He pointed out that "these steps will have positive repercussions on the technical and commercial aspects of the national carrier after completing the procedures for lifting the air ban on Iraqi Airways."
He added that the time frame for lifting the ban depends on the extent to which Iraqi Airways responds to the air safety requirements that contribute to lifting the European ban on Iraqi Airways."
He explained that "there are direct instructions from the Prime Minister and direct follow-up also by the Minister of Transport and the Iraqi Airways Department," explaining that "the General Company for Iraqi Airways has achieved more achievements in the file of returning idle aircraft and the file of maximizing and increasing the revenues of the General Company for Iraqi Airways and also opening a number of important destinations."
