    Baghdad Today - Erbil
Military expert Jabbar Yawar confirmed today, Saturday (July 27, 2024), that there is a depth of about 40 kilometers of security gaps in the disputed areas, and these areas are not occupied by any security force.
Yawar said in an interview with Baghdad Today that "despite the formation of two joint brigades from the army and the Peshmerga forces and the transfer of their personnel to the Ministry of Defense in terms of training and funding, this force no longer has any connection to the Peshmerga, but despite the passage of 4 years, this force has not been trained, and it does not have a training camp, nor a military airport, nor a base, nor funding."
He added, "It was decided to deploy this force, so that the mission of the First Brigade would be from northern Kirkuk to the Sahela area on the Iraqi-Syrian border near Nineveh Governorate."
He pointed out that "the mission of the Second Brigade is from southern Kirkuk to Khanaqin and to fill the gaps completely, but so far there are no brigade headquarters or equipment, and that is why the gaps are still ongoing."
The security authorities in Baghdad believe that the distance of the disputed areas is only 40 kilometers, while Kurdistan believes that it extends over a length of more than a thousand kilometers, according to previous statements by the Joint Operations Command and the security authorities in Kurdistan.
The security vacuum areas extend over vast areas, from the Syrian border in Nineveh Governorate, through Salah al-Din, Kirkuk, and Diyala to the Iranian border.
In October 2023, it was announced that two joint brigades of the army and Peshmerga would be formed to be deployed in the disputed areas, but no real announcement of the deployment of forces has yet been made.
