The head of the Iraqi "Progress" party, Mohammed al-Halbousi, imposed "difficult conditions" on the leaders of the "Coordination Framework" in exchange for resolving the crisis of the vacant parliament speaker for about 7 months.
Informed sources said that Halbousi and leaders of Sunni parties attended a meeting of the “Coordination Framework” on Wednesday night to reach an agreement on a candidate for the position.
The "framework" avoided issuing a statement or clarification about the outcomes of the meeting, but sources reported that Halbousi "stipulated the implementation of one of 3 difficult options in exchange for resolving the dispute."
According to the sources, the first option is for the Sunni party opposing Halbousi to present three candidates for the presidency of parliament, and he will choose one of them and give him the Ministry of Trade in exchange for giving up the position.
The second proposal stipulates that Halbousi nominate three names for his Sunni opponents, who will choose one of them to be the speaker of parliament in exchange for his giving up the Ministry of Trade, while the third requires agreeing on three names from the oldest Sunni MPs to choose one of them as speaker.
