    Baghdad today - Kirkuk
Today, Saturday (March 23, 2024), the coordinator of the Arab Opinion Commission, Nazem Al-Shammari, proposed three solutions for the purpose of ending the complex formation of the local government in Kirkuk Governorate.
Al-Shammari said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “in light of the stubbornness of each component in its opinion and its adherence to forming the government despite the lack of a majority, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani has three options to end the crisis.”
He added, "The first option is to oblige the political blocs and components of Kirkuk to make concessions, share positions, and form the government quickly," noting, "The second option is to manage Kirkuk Governorate from a lower position and hold Provincial Council sessions headed by the oldest members on a temporary basis in the hope that the components will agree."
He pointed out, "If these two options fail, we are faced with a third and final option, which is to dissolve the provincial council and agree to hold new elections in Kirkuk."
Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani had brought together the various parties in the Kirkuk Provincial Council to reach a solution to form the local government in Kirkuk, the governorate that witnessed the highest participation rate in the provincial council elections, but it is still side by side with Diyala, without a single step forward in resolving it. Provincial council and local government positions.
The Kirkuk crisis can be summed up by both the Kurdish and Arab parties holding the position of governor, as the number of seats for the Kurds is 6 and the Arabs are also 6 seats, while the Turkmen Arabs are lined up with two seats, and the Kurds are lined up with one Christian seat, at a time when each party needs to achieve a majority with 9. Seats to form local government.
