    Shafaq News/ The Deputy Chairman of the Nineveh Provincial Council, Muhammad al-Jubouri, revealed on Sunday that there is a tendency to make amendments to the Sinjar Agreement concluded between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, while he announced that the Arabs and Yazidis in Sinjar had signed a “community harmony” document.

    Al-Jubouri told Shafaq News Agency, “The United States Institute of Peace and the American Liberation and Construction Society sponsored the signing of a community harmony document in Sinjar district between Arabs and Yazidis to reject violence and extremism.”

    He considered that "the community harmony document will be a real breakthrough towards peaceful coexistence in the judiciary," stressing that the document "will not be a substitute for the Iraqi judiciary in pursuing criminals and retaliating against them."

    He stressed that "the special committee for selecting a new mayor of Sinjar district has begun its work in receiving applications for candidates for the position," indicating that "the position will be granted with the consensus of all components and political forces in Sinjar to take over the administration of the judiciary, initiate reconstruction, and support stability."

    Al-Jubouri pointed out that "there is a tendency for the Provincial Council to work on reformulating the security agreement for Sinjar district concluded between the governments of Baghdad and Erbil at the end of the year 2020, and the agreement was concluded in the absence of the Nineveh administration and the Provincial Council."

    He concluded by saying, "Many of the requirements for restoring stability to Sinjar require different commitments from the Baghdad government and the Nineveh local government."

    On October 9, 2020, the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government reached an agreement to normalize the situation in Sinjar, which stipulates joint management of the judiciary in administrative, security, and service aspects. However, this agreement has not actually entered into force yet for political reasons, according to To officials in the Kurdistan Region.
