The head of the Federation of Trade Unions in Basra, Ahmed Fahmi Al-Khafaji, confirmed on Saturday that there is a noticeable increase in the volume of foreign workers in various sectors, whether organized or unorganized sectors.
Al-Khafaji said, in an interview with Mawazine News, that “according to reports issued by the inspection committees of the Federation of Trade Unions in Basra, this increase has reached unprecedented levels, as the percentage of foreign workers in organized sectors has reached a rate of up to 70%.” ".
Al-Khafaji added, "This situation raises great concerns for the Iraqi labor market."
He continued, "The statistics show that the volume of foreign workers in unorganized sectors has doubled, such as restaurants, cafes, women's barbershops, and small shops, which threatens to threaten the job opportunities for Iraqi workers."
