    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Representative Waad Al-Qaddo, confirmed today, Wednesday (April 10, 2024), the presence of three factors that lead to a decrease in what he called the militarization of cities.
Al-Qaddu said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “the level of security stability in the governorates of Iraq is rising, with a significant decline in violations and terrorist attacks during 2024 compared to previous years.”
Al-Qaddo added, “The stability and success of the intelligence effort in directing a series of specific strikes on terrorist and criminal cells and the effort to exploit the obsession with reassurance in pushing society to greater openness and activity in all its dimensions, including economic ones, led to a reduction in the principle of militarization of cities by reducing the spread and striving to conduct the largest security deployment operation through Handing over responsibility for provincial security to the Ministry of Interior.
He stressed that "2024 is the year of security changes in Iraq through the adoption of new strategies that rely in essence on the intelligence dimension in tracking down the remaining remnants of ISIS terrorists and criminal networks," stressing that "the policy of banditry and widespread deployment has decreased and is taking place within limits."
It is noteworthy that the past years have witnessed an intense security and military deployment, the installation of multiple controls, and the militarization of cities through the spread of military headquarters within the regions, not to mention the large number of controls that clearly affected traffic and caused traffic congestion in most areas due to the security conditions and the fear of terrorist groups carrying out their operations. Inside the cities, but the situation began to witness a clear improvement after eliminating the terrorist organization ISIS, drying up its sources of funding, and eliminating its sleeper cells.
