Today, Saturday, Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, affirmed Mohsen Al-Mandalawi and the protection of journalists.
Al-Mandalawi said in a statement, “My sincere congratulations and warmest congratulations to the press family, the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, and the staff of the prestigious Al-Zawraa newspaper, on the 155th anniversary of Iraqi Press Day, and the publication of the first Iraqi newspaper in 1869.”
He added: "We use this noble occasion to remember the martyrs of journalism who sacrificed their noble lives for the freedom of their country. We demand the need to care for their families and work to value the great sacrifices of the heroic cadres who participated in conveying the battles of victory and liberation against terrorism."
He affirmed the legislative authority’s support for “freedom of the press, expression of opinion, and the protection of journalists as they are an active and responsible partner in the success and support of legislative and executive work, as well as support for the democratic process under the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution and within the framework of journalistic codes of honor.”
