    Baghdad Today - Follow-up
The representative of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq in Iran, Nazim Dabbagh, confirmed today, Monday (August 5, 2024), that there are those who are trying to strain relations between Tehran and Erbil by claiming that the missile that targeted Haniyeh was launched from Iraqi Kurdistan.
Dabbagh told Iranian media outlets, which were monitored by Baghdad Today, “I believe that the aim of assassinating Ismail Haniyeh is to eliminate this person and his position, but he will certainly be replaced by someone else.”
He added: This assassination will escalate tensions between Arab countries and the Islamic world with the Israeli entity and will destroy diplomatic efforts made in Qatar to stop the ceasefire in the war on Gaza.
He added: Some have done their best to make regional problems permanent, because they cannot afford peace, comfort and tranquility in the region.
He continued, saying: Some claim that the Kurdistan Region of Iraq played a role in the assassination of Haniyeh that took place in Tehran and spread rumors that the missile or drone used in this assassination was launched from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
He added: Some people are trying to create tension in relations between Tehran and Erbil by raising such misleading issues, but the evil purposes of these conspiracies will not be achieved because relations between the two sides have improved recently more than at any other time.
Regarding the response of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the recent assassination in Tehran, he said: In my opinion, Iran's response to the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh will come in due time and will be at a level befitting Mr. Haniyeh's character. The Leader of the Islamic Revolution also condemned the terrorist act and called for revenge for Mr. Haniyeh's blood.
Regarding the presence of a high-level delegation from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq at the swearing-in ceremony of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, he said: In my opinion, the presence of Nechirvan Barzani and his accompanying delegation at the swearing-in ceremony of the Iranian President and the meetings that took place in Tehran once again demonstrated the strengthening of relations and high-level political, economic and security cooperation between Iran and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
He stressed: The enemies will never be able to disrupt the bilateral relations between Iran and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq or challenge these relations, given the good and strong relations established between Tehran and Erbil.
