The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities is studying, with the relevant authorities, the identification of the categories included in the new residential cities project.
The official spokesman for the ministry, Istibraq Sabah, explained in an interview with "Al-Sabah", followed by "Al-Eqtisad News", that the ministry proposed including the families of martyrs, political prisoners, martyrs of the Popular Mobilization Forces, the Ministries of Defense and Interior, as well as the wounded according to the percentage of disability, in addition to those included in the Martyrs and Prisoners Foundations, in the new residential cities project consisting of 15 cities in Baghdad and the governorates.
He added that the categories also include widows, divorcees, wives of missing persons, and unmarried women aged 35 and over, in addition to retirees, people with special needs, holders of higher degrees, and non-employee union members.
Sabah pointed out that the prices of the units are supported by a condition in the contract concluded with the investors, with a study being conducted to include some categories for free, provided that the entities affiliated with them bear the expenses of the housing unit, noting that this will be in accordance with controls that will be determined later.
He explained that the ministry launched the first group consisting of five cities, distributed as follows: two in Baghdad, the first is Ali Al-Wardi in Al-Nahrawan, the second is Al-Jawahiri in Abu Ghraib, as well as the city of Al-Ghazlani in Mosul, the Hanging Gardens in Babylon, in addition to the banks of Karbala.
He added that the housing units provided by these cities are 200,000, while the ministry is preparing to implement the second group consisting of six cities, and providing 100,000 new housing units, which are the city of Al-Majar Al-Kabir in Maysan, Al-Warka in Al-Muthanna, Balad in Salah Al-Din, as well as the city of Ur in Dhi Qar Governorate, Al-Salam in Najaf Al-Ashraf, in addition to the city of Al-Mutanabbi in Wasit.
