    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Kirkuk Provincial Council voted today, Saturday (August 10, 2024), to choose Muhammad Ibrahim Al-Hafez as head of the council and Ribwar Taha as governor of Kirkuk.
An informed source told Baghdad Today, "Kirkuk Council held its session with nine members at Al-Rasheed Hotel in Baghdad to elect the council president, governor, and his deputy."
He added that "the council voted to choose Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Hafez as the council's president, Ribwar Taha as the governor of Kirkuk, and Ibrahim Al-Tamim as his second deputy," indicating that "Angel Zell from the Christian component was appointed as the council's rapporteur."
This step comes about seven months after the announcement of the results of the provincial council elections. It is noteworthy that throughout the past period, the winning political blocs in Kirkuk did not succeed in forming the local government, but the recent initiative of the Prime Minister led to ending the political deadlock in the province.
On Saturday, the member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Sherzad Samad, revealed the details of today’s meeting of the Kirkuk Provincial Council in the capital, Baghdad, at the Rashid Hotel, indicating that the session was preceded by a meeting of the political forces and leaders of the blocs.
He added, "Most likely, the agreement will be for the Kurds to assume the position of governor during the first two years, and the Arabs to assume the presidency of the council, while the Turkmen will assume the position of first deputy governor, and the position of second deputy will be held by the Democratic Party."
