The Ministry of Transport will complete five projects out of 12, related to the development of Baghdad International Airport, within the investment portfolio projects implemented by the International Finance Corporation.
This was reported by the Director of the Ministry's Media Office, Maitham Al-Safi, who explained to "Al-Sabah": The projects include green spaces, runways and halls, noting that the first half of next year 2025 will witness the final completion of the remaining projects, which cost 40 billion dinars.
He added that the ministry has worked to improve many facilities within the airport to provide the best service to citizens, as reception areas have been equipped and guidance information has been provided, and it has also been keen to ensure smooth and comfortable entry, in addition to launching a free lost baggage service for Iraqi Airways passengers
exclusively.
He pointed out that the airport has recorded a significant increase in the number of passengers and incoming and outgoing flights since the beginning of this year until mid-August, which was reflected in the increase in financial revenues achieved compared to
last year.
Al-Safi confirmed that work is underway to completely close the grounded aircraft file, as a new and scheduled plan will be launched by Iraqi Airways to ensure the return of all grounded aircraft to service and to end this file permanently during 2025, especially after the return of 11 aircraft of different models, bringing the number of operating aircraft to 26, and work is ongoing to return four others by the end of this year at the latest.
