The Ministry of Transport confirmed on Wednesday that the IFC Foundation has reached the final stages of the Baghdad International Airport development plan, while indicating that there are serious government efforts to raise the level of airports.
The Ministry's Media Director, Maitham Abdel Safi, said, "The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has reached the final stages of submitting the final proposal regarding the development of Baghdad International Airport," noting that "there is a plan that depends on the expected percentage increase in the number of passengers."
He pointed out, "The classification of Iraq's airports is (Cat 2), meaning it occupies the average position," stressing that "there are plans to raise the level of airports and reach the third classification (Cat 3), as work has begun at Baghdad International Airport."
