Kirkuk: Ali's Renaissance
The Tourism Authority, affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, is leading efforts to employ 300,000 tourism and hotel graduates, if approved by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, while it intends to launch a campaign to close unlicensed travel and tourism companies.
The Director of Inspection and Follow-up at the Authority, Mu’ayyad Haitham Rasan, told Al-Sabah: The Authority submitted a review to the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers regarding the employment of 25 percent of foreign workers in restaurants of tourist facilities in the private and public sectors according to the required specializations, and 75 percent of unemployed youth who are graduates of the unemployed tourism and hotel departments by allocating 300,000 job opportunities in the private and public sectors.
He added that the Authority is awaiting the approval of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers for the purpose of training them at the Authority’s Development and Training Center and granting them work IDs in tourism facilities.
Rasan pointed out that there is a shortage of tourism staff due to the difficulty of appointing graduates of tourism departments, because the department relies on self-financing, so it is hoped to obtain the necessary approvals in agreement with the private sector to employ graduates.
He added that the Authority currently intends to develop and rehabilitate the development and training center according to the specified plans, standards and required quality, as it has currently reached advanced stages of completion, and will be opened at the end of this month, for the purpose of training all workers in tourism facilities and granting them a certificate that qualifies them to work in this field.
In Kirkuk, the Director of the Tourism Department, Sarmed Mohammed Jamil, told Al-Sabah: The Tourism Authority has issued instructions not to delegate any unlicensed company to tourists to the Kurdistan Region.
He explained that the main condition for companies to operate is that they be licensed and that their owners obtain a delegation badge, indicating that the aforementioned procedures were carried out in agreement with the Tourism Authority in the Kurdistan Region to preserve the safety of travelers and prevent their exploitation.
He stressed that the campaign includes follow-up and closure steps in cooperation with tourism security and the relevant security authorities, and monitoring their work and commitment, and its launch coincides with the development of the tourism reality in Kirkuk.
