The Social Protection Authority of the Ministry of Labor revealed, on Tuesday, major violations related to more than 5,000 employees and affiliates in the Kurdistan Region receiving social assistance illegally.
The head of the authority, Dr. Ahmed Al-Moussawi, explained that these violations appeared after the completion of the audit and matching processes of employee data in the region, which led to the referral of the files of the violators to the competent authorities to recover the amounts that were disbursed to them in violation of the law. Moussawi added that these violations date back to the period between 2016 and 2021.
He pointed out that this move came as a result of an agreement between the Prime Minister and the regional government, as comparisons in the data revealed a number of employees who were receiving social assistance despite their employment in government institutions.
He stressed that this procedure comes within the framework of the directives of the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Ahmed Al-Asadi, who launched a broad recovery campaign at the beginning of the year aimed at uncovering violators of the Social Protection Law. This includes re-auditing all records covered by the system and completing the data intersection process with ministries and government institutions to ensure that violators are removed from the system.
