[size=45]Anwar Nada Al-Lahibi, the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Liberated Governorates, announced the establishment of a party called “Unity of the Sons of Iraq,” stressing that the purpose of establishing this party is to preserve the democratic system in the country.[/size]
[size=45]The term liberated provinces refers to the Sunni-majority provinces in the country, which ISIS imposed its control over in mid-2014 before the Iraqi security forces, backed by the US-led international coalition, were able to retake them in major military operations that lasted for about three years.[/size]
[size=45]Al-Lahibi said in a statement today, “Based on the principle of establishing a state of citizenship based on institutions and the application of the law, and calling for an economic, scientific, cultural, civilizational and social renaissance, we have begun registering the (Unity of the Sons of Iraq) Party, as one of the Iraqi parties licensed and registered in accordance with the current political parties law.”[/size]
[size=45]He added, "The purpose of establishing our party is to preserve and protect the democratic system, and to enhance and strengthen political work, in accordance with our basic principles based on the belief in love for Iraq and its unity."[/size]
[size=45]Al-Lahibi also referred to “opening up to the Iraqi national forces and working with them in a way that serves the Iraqi citizen, in addition to supporting the state’s foreign policy, in a way that enhances its sovereignty and position among countries, and putting Iraq’s interests first and last.”[/size]
[size=45]According to the statement, “the objectives of this party are to work in the spirit of one team among the people of the country, with all its religions, sects, nationalities and spectrums, and to call for national and social cohesion, to confront challenges and overcome difficulties, and to strive to establish the foundations of freedom and equality in rights and duties for all citizens wherever they are and wherever they settle in the land of Iraq.”[/size]
[size=45]It is noteworthy that the Department of Political Parties and Organizations announced the registration of 33 parties in its latest statistics of parties licensed to practice political work in Iraq since its establishment until February 2024.[/size]
