Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has revealed that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and US President Donald Trump have asked him to communicate with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in order to calm the Persian Gulf.
Khan said he was acting as a mediator, refusing to reveal more.
“Before my meeting with Trump on Monday, I stopped in Saudi Arabia because of the march attack on oil facilities, and I spoke to the Saudi crown prince.
"Ibn Salman asked me to calm the situation, perhaps to come up with a new deal, and in turn I conveyed that and yes we are doing our best," he said.
"This is ongoing and I cannot reveal more," he said.
Concurrently, sources familiar with the fields revealed an Iraqi initiative to mediate between Riyadh and Tehran.
The same sources pointed out that the Iraqi mediation aims to meet with leaders of Iran and Saudi Arabia in the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
