The dollar hit a six-week low against the safe-haven yen on Tuesday as investors warned ahead of the UK election, a meeting of the ECB and former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Komi before a Senate panel this week.
The dollar fell 0.7 percent to 109.7 yen after hitting its lowest level since April 25 at 109.66 yen. Earlier in the session, the dollar briefly rallied to 110.51 yen initially supported by higher US bond yields in foreign markets.
Sterling rose 0.2 percent to 1.2927 after rising in foreign trade to a 10-day high of $ 1.2940.
The euro offset losses in overseas trade, rising 0.2 percent to $ 1.1275, heading towards a seven-month high of $ 1.1285 on Friday.
The dollar index fell against a basket of major currencies to 96.56, the lowest since November 9.
The Australian dollar rose from a low of $ 0.7457 earlier, reaching a recent high of $ 0.749, unchanged on a daily basis.
