Al-Liibi visits Tehran to discuss the transfer of oil from Kirkuk to Iran

Iranian Oil Minister Abdul-Jabbar Ali al-Luaibi will travel to the Iranian capital Tehran on Saturday to discuss bilateral cooperation and how to implement the oil transfer project from Kirkuk to Iranian refineries, Iranian media reported Saturday.

"Al-Liibi will hold talks with Iranian officials in Tehran on cooperation between the two countries in the joint fields and how to implement the project to transfer oil from Kirkuk to the Iranian refineries for the refining process and then return its derivatives to Iraq," the official IRNA news agency reported.

"According to preliminary understandings, oil is to be transferred from Kirkuk to the Kermanshah (West) and Tabriz (northwest) refineries and then the derivatives will be returned for use in Iraq," she said.

"Another issue that will be discussed during the visit of the Iraqi minister to Tehran is the issue of the transfer of Iranian gas to southern Iraq via the Shalamja route, as well as the international cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy," it said.

"Other topics of interest to the Iraqi side include the training of Iraqi experts in Iran and cooperation in the university sector in the field of energy," concluded its report.
