Iraq is in its final stage of war against terrorism, Vice-President Osama al-Nujaifi revealed on Friday.
During a meeting held with The Netherlands ambassador to Iraq Jan Waltmans, Nujaifi said that the country is facing major challenges, including restoring security, establishing peace, reconstructing liberated districts and bringing life back to normal.
Nujaifi also called on the Dutch ambassador to increase his country's support for Iraq as it is still fighting ISIS remnants after the liberation of Mosul.
In response to the questions Waltmans raised about human rights violations, the Iraqi VP noted that there are incidents that take place outside the control of the state by unchecked militias.
These incidents are condemned and denounced by the government, he further stated.
He added that abiding by the law and defending the legitimate rights of citizens are main duties of the state.
Moreover, Nujaifi reiterated his stance against holding Kurdistan Region's referendum on independence in Kirkuk and other disputed districts.
During the meeting, Nujaifi also tackled bolstering economic relations between Iraq and the Netherlands in the agriculture and energy fields.
On Wednesday, Iraqi VP discussed with British Ambassador to Iraq Frank Baker Kurdistan Region's independence referendum scheduled for September 25.
