Dollar rises despite escalation with North Korea
The US dollar rose sharply on Tuesday on gains against the yen and the Swiss franc on Tuesday to recover from tensions between the United States and North Korea that pushed capital towards Japan and Switzerland.
The Japanese yen and the Swiss franc rose as the military threat between Pyongyang and Washington mounted after new international sanctions were imposed 10 days ago.
Forex market strategists also point to a general recovery by the dollar over the past two weeks after the worst 4 months since 2011 against the euro and the record currency basket.
The dollar index rose 0.4 percent in morning trade in Europe, to $ 1.1738 against the euro.
It also rose 0.7 percent against the yen at 110.42, returning to its pre-Trump level last week, when North Korea threatened to "fire and anger" if the United States threatened.
