The Economic and Financial Committee of the European Union criticized US President Donald Trump's economic policy and expressed concern that Trump's efforts to strengthen protectionism pose a threat to the global economy.

German newspaper Der Spiegel reported Saturday. "The effects may be far more damaging than we think so far," the magazine quoted an internal document of the commission, which includes senior officials of the finance ministries of EU member states.

Europeans are concerned about Trump's spending plans and said the policy included "short-term risks to the global economy," the magazine said in its report. The magazine pointed out that lenders have avoided the United States recently.

"The decline in international investment in the United States may be a risk," the magazine quoted the document as saying.

For its part, the European Commission declined to comment when the Reuters news agency, while a spokesman for the current Estonian presidency of the European Union, he did not know of any report on Trump.
