The President of the United States Environmental Protection Agency Scott Bruett, said that the administration of President Donald Trump plans to cancel Barack Obama's climate plan, which is one of the most important achievements of the era of the former president in the field of the environment.
"Today, in Washington, he will sign a bill to abolish the so-called" clean energy plan "approved by the previous administration, Bruet said in a speech in the southeast state of Kentucky. According to AFP.
The Clean Energy Plan, which aims to accelerate energy transition, requires fossil-fueled thermal power plants to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 32 percent by 2030 from 2005.
If it enters into force, it will mean the closure of many of the oldest and most polluting coal plants. However, the judiciary suspended the plan after receiving appeals from 30 states, most of which are ruled by Republicans.
In March, Donald Trump signed the "Energy Independence Decree" which ordered a review of Obama's climate plan.
Trump, who has repeatedly questioned the reality of warming and the role of human activities, promised to revive the coal industry to provide jobs for miners.
Trump also announced at the beginning of June 2017 his decision to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement signed in December 2015 between 195 countries to reduce climate warming.
The United States is the second largest source of greenhouse gases, after China.
