The US Senate voted in favor of President Donald Trump's choice as Secretary of National Security in the United States.
She won 62 votes in favor and 37 against.
Nielsen, 45, will replace John Kelly, who was elected by President Trump in July to serve as chief of staff at the White House.
Nielsen is a former employee at the Department of Homeland Security and currently serves as White House chief of staff.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says Nielsen, as former chief of staff of the Department of Homeland Security, understands the day-to-day operations of the administration and is ready to start her first day of work.
The Ministry of National Security oversees the control of the country's borders, electronic security and response in case of natural disasters, as well as additional tasks.
