The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced that the German government has donated 30 million euros ($ 34.8 million) to meet the humanitarian needs of Iraq after an emergency.
"We are deeply grateful to the German government and people for this very generous contribution," said Lise Grande, the humanitarian coordinator for Iraq.
Germany has already contributed $ 10.9 million to the Iraq Humanitarian Fund, a collective fund administered by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, bringing the country's contribution to a total of $ 45.7 million in 2017 for the difficult humanitarian situation in Iraq.
"The joint fund is the backbone of the humanitarian operation in Iraq," Grande said. "More than 125 projects targeting 4.2 million Iraqis in nine provinces received funding through the Fund in 2017 alone."
Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced the full liberation of Iraq from a supporter on Saturday, December 10, more than three years ago. The armed group seized large tracts of land throughout Iraq and Syria.
"The military campaign against Da'ash has ended, but the humanitarian crisis is not," he said, adding that hundreds of thousands of Iraqis were still displaced.
A total of 3.3 million people remain displaced, most of them living in camps or improvised shelters where their homes have been destroyed or destroyed.
Three years of daunting control and military operations to liberate the country have left the main infrastructure in ruins, causing the greatest challenge to the reconstruction and stability that the world has seen for decades.
"Millions of Iraqis have suffered terribly," she said. "Our top priority now is to help ensure that people in need of assistance are helped, and in the coming months we will work closely with the government so that people can return home safely, voluntarily and with dignity." Finished
