The United Nations said North Korea made nearly 200 million dollars in profits last year from exporting banned goods in violation of sanctions.

The report, prepared by a panel of experts from several countries including China, Russia and Malaysia, said the sanctions had failed to halt illegal export activity from North Korea.

He said there was evidence of military cooperation between North Korea, Syria and Myanmar as Pyongyang was subject to sanctions by the United States, the United Nations and the European Union over its nuclear programs and the development of intercontinental ballistic missiles.

But the UN report, submitted to the UN Security Council, said that "North Korea continued to export all prohibited goods under the sanctions resolution over the period from January to September 2017."
