BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq is seeking to return to its pivotal role in Arab issues, parliament speaker Salim al-Jubouri said on Friday, hoping that Saudi Arabia would participate in Iraq's reconstruction and rehabilitation of its infrastructure.
"The Speaker of the House of Representatives Salim Al-Jubouri received this evening the Saudi media delegation, which includes a number of editors-in-chief and representatives of Saudi newspapers and media, in the presence of the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia in Iraq Abdul Aziz Al-Shammari, .
He added that "the meeting reviewed the situation and challenges in the region and the importance of cooperation between Iraq and its Arab region in order to achieve permanent stability and activate the factors of economic development and open new horizons of relations between Iraq and the Kingdom to strengthen cultural ties and strengthen brotherly ties between the two brotherly peoples."
"Iraq is keen to strengthen its relations with its Arab brethren and to return to its pivotal role in Arab issues," Jabouri said in a statement.
He added that "strengthening relations with neighboring countries and the region, first and foremost Saudi Arabia will contribute to accelerate the achievement of these goals, and will provide opportunities for our countries to achieve bilateral interests at the level of trade, energy, investment and wealth in various forms," pointing out that "Iraq is on the reconstruction And the rehabilitation of its infrastructure, and we hope that the Arab participation in general and Saudi Arabia in particular are present in an excellent manner. "
A large media delegation from Saudi Arabia, including editors-in-chief and a number of Saudi media officials, arrived in Baghdad on Friday morning at the invitation of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate.
