The Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has caused a wave of ridicule and harsh criticism of social networking sites.
The story began after a televised speech by Ali Khamenei on the occasion of the Persian New Year last Tuesday, urging Iranians to support local products rather than importing from abroad.
Only a few minutes later, social networking sites filled with images of Iranian officials who were said to have failed to follow this advice - including Khamenei himself.
A picture of the supreme leader in Iran comes out of the BMW car with the attention of the pioneers of the media sites, reprinting this picture thousands of times and comparing it to Prince Abbas Hwaid, Iran's prime minister under the Shah, who led the first home-made car in the 1960s.

Hazztag's chants chanted "Support for Iranian Products", expressing their anger at the actions of some politicians.
"The prime minister of the corrupt Phalange regime is driving a homemade car, while the spiritual leader of Muslims around the world is riding a $ 1 million car made by infidels," one of them chastised.
On the other hand, others defended Khamenei and pointed out that the vehicle he was riding might be part of the security department.
Not only did the Moroccans comment on the purchase of foreign goods by Iranian officials, but one of them described locally made cars as scrap, while others published pictures of Iranian cars that had been hit by traffic accidents.
"In the Iranian product support campaign, clerics and pro-state supporters gave Kia a car and forced them to lead it," wrote one of the worshipers.

Khamenei's relatives have not been released from criticism, with the rebels publishing a portrait of Iran's former parliament speaker Gholam Ali Haddad Adel and his family shopping at a famous clothing store in Britain. The picture was widely shared, with more than 700 people admiring it.
"I support the Iranian products," said one of them. "This is the portrait of Ali Haddad Adel, the father of the daughter-in-law of Khamenei, the prince of Iran, who buys clothes from evil Britain."

Not all comments were made in the context of criticism, with some taking the opportunity to pay tribute to their favorite Iranian products.
One of them published pictures of his purchases of teapot tea, while another listing of Iranian products was put as an alternative to the country's popular foreign products.
