agency said the official Islamic Republic News Agency on Sunday that Iran 's central bank ban on the country 's banks handle currency encrypted, including Alpetkoan, because of concerns about money laundering while Iran is seeking to end the currency crisis.
"Banks, credit institutions and money exchangers must avoid any sale or purchase of these currencies or take any action to support them," the agency quoted a circular issued by the central bank based on a coded currency ban approved by the Anti-Money Laundering Authority in Iran in December.
Earlier this month, Iran formally tied its official currency exchange rate and its price on the open market and banned currency out of banks after its currency fell to its lowest level ever on fears of a possible return to sanctions.
US President Donald Trump is set to decide by May 12 whether to reinstate US economic sanctions on Tehran, which would hit the 2015 agreement between Iran and the six major powers. Trump pressed European allies to work with Washington to reform the deal.
