Today, Tuesday (May 14, 2024), Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Oil Minister Hayyan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad reviewed the details of plans to end gas burning, which it is hoped will be completed within 3 to 5 years.
Al-Sawad said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "The end of this year will witness the opening of the Basra  NGL  gas project with a capacity of 200 million cubic feet of gas, after the Basra  NGL  was completed earlier and had a capacity of 200 million cubic feet as well."
He stated, “The integrated southern Iraq project includes gas investment with a capacity of 600 million cubic feet in five fields, which are Majnoon, Al-Lahis, Artawi, West Qurna 2, and Tuba, where gas burning will stop completely in addition to reducing thermal emissions, in addition to adding large energy from gas to support the stations.” electrical".
The minister pointed out that "there are projects at the Ministry to invest in Halfaya gas in Maysan with a capacity of 300 million cubic feet of gas, in addition to other projects currently being implemented by the American company Baker Hughes, which operates in Dhi Qar."
Recently, gas investment in Iraq has increased to more than 1,900 mqmq per day, while only 1,300 mqmqm are left to be burned. If gas burning is completely stopped, Iraq’s gas production will be about 2,200 mqmq per day, while Iraq needs 3,000 mqmq per day to meet the needs of its stations.
