The Communications and Media Commission is preparing to prepare a strategy for artificial intelligence, taking into account global updates on the ethics of artificial intelligence.
The Chairman of the Authority’s Board of Commissioners, Engineer Bassam Salem, told “Al-Sabah”: The Authority is in the process of preparing a strategy for artificial intelligence in order to regulate it, noting that it will cooperate with international bodies in order to transfer global experiences, so that the regulations do not prevent development.
He stressed the importance of preparing this strategy for the country's development, taking into account societal issues and matters.
For his part, the expert in the field of artificial intelligence and the president of the University of the People, Dr. Youssef Khalaf, explained in an interview with “Al-Sabah” that there is no strategy in science that limits the development of technology or information technologies, especially artificial intelligence, which caused a revolution two years ago, warning that the United Nations UNEXO and all international institutions have developed strategies to apply and benefit from artificial intelligence in several fields and set ethics to ensure its safe use.
He pointed out that the Prime Minister’s Office and the Communications and Media Authority are making an effort with specialists to develop a national strategy and general frameworks for the use and implementation of artificial intelligence in state institutions to benefit from it in several fields, expressing his hope that this strategy will study reality and take into account global updates on an important topic, which is the ethics of intelligence. Artificial intelligence, especially since it has entered the medical fields and data analysis, which are sometimes characterized by sensitivity and privacy in developed countries, which necessitated setting controls for the uses of these technologies and ethics.
He pointed out that artificial intelligence is a useful technology for society in general, adding that it includes challenges that can cause damage and side effects from misuse, as is the case with all electronic technologies and uses.
