A newspaper report revealed that Islamist parties are the biggest implicators in the electronic warfare over the election contest.

"Competition in the Iraqi elections has broken the stereotype of the term electronic armies, which emerged after a period of social networking platforms in the Arab world," the report said.

He added: "The process of establishing hundreds of false accounts on those platforms and attack certain personalities and praise agent for others, is no longer only a primitive issue for the electoral conflict in Iraq and the process of political dichotomy between blocs and parties."

The report quoted officials in Baghdad as saying that "the leaks indicate a high rate of spending by parties to promote and propaganda and attack opponents, in the virtual world, to unprecedented levels."
