[ltr]Eight people were killed and dozens injured in explosions at a stadium in the eastern city of Jalalabad, Afghan officials said.[/ltr]
[ltr]"The blasts took place in a football stadium that was hosting a cricket match," said Suhareb Qadri, a local councilor,[/ltr]
[ltr]No one has claimed responsibility for the incident. Nangarhar province on the border with Pakistan has seen an upsurge in violence this year, most recently the coordinated attack last week on a government building that killed at least 15 people.[/ltr]
[ltr]The provincial governor was removed from office last week because of the security deterioration in the region, which has become a stronghold of the elements of the preacher and Taliban fighters.[/ltr]
