Netanyahu praises Washington's withdrawal from Human Rights Council and prepares "hostile organization"
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the US decision to withdraw from the Human Rights Council and promised a "courageous decision" in what the council called the "biased and anti-Israel organization."
"Israel thanks President Trump, Minister Pompeo and Ambassador Nikki Healy for their courageous decision against the hypocrisy and lies of the so-called UN Human Rights Council," Netanyahu said in a statement on Wednesday.
"For many years, the Human Rights Council has proved to be a biased and anti-Israel organization and has betrayed its mission of protecting human rights."
"Instead of dealing with regimes that systematically violate human rights, the Human Rights Council is focusing on the issue of Israel, the only real democracy in the Middle East."
The United States on Tuesday announced its withdrawal from the UN Human Rights Council.
The US decision came after the administration of President Donald Trump accused the UN Human Rights Council, which was created in Geneva in 2006 of 47 members, of "anti-Israel bias and a systematic campaign against it."
