    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
The Human Rights Commission revealed, on Wednesday (August 14, 2024), the lack of logistical and financial support allocated to measures to combat human trafficking, and the disparity in the implementation of policies and programs necessary to reduce support for trafficking networks.
The Director of the Public Relations and Media Department at the Commission, Sarmed Al-Badri, said in press statements that “the Central Committee for Combating Human Trafficking includes several ministries, such as the Interior and relevant authorities, as well as the Human Rights Commission, the Baghdad Governorate, and the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers.”
Al-Badri added, "The Commission noticed that the committee did not disclose the existence of a comprehensive database classified according to gender, investigation results, and the fate of victims, in addition to the lack of clarity in decisions to protect victims and witnesses, noting that they are documented in the files of the Human Trafficking Department."
He stressed that "the efforts of the Ministry of Interior to contain the human trafficking file are distinguished, but there is a disparity in implementing the policies and programs necessary to reduce the phenomena expressing human trafficking networks, such as prostitution, begging and street children, and the lack of logistical and financial support allocated in this field."
Al-Badri noted that "there is an urgent need to hold a conference or an expanded meeting, during which an organizational mechanism is established and a long-term policy is drawn up to implement the provisions of the law in a coordinated manner between the central and sub-committees under the supervision of a supervisory body, in addition to urging the government to establish more rehabilitation centers for victims of domestic violence and human trafficking."
