Speaker of the House of Representatives Mohamed Halabousi discussed with Japanese Ambassador to Iraq Naufumi Hashimoto the development of institutional relations and parliamentary committees between the two countries.
"During his meeting with his office on Sunday, Halabousi discussed the joint relations between the two countries and the most important political developments in Iraq and the region," the statement said.
During the meeting, Halabousi expressed his keenness to develop the relationship between the legislative institutions and activating the parliamentary friendship committee in Iraq and Japan, welcoming any parliamentary delegation from the Japanese parliament.
He pointed out that "the development of economic relations will reflect positively on the relationship between the two countries, wishing the new ambassador Mufqiya in his duties."
On the ongoing negotiations between the political blocs to complete the selection of presidencies, Halaboussi stressed that "everyone agrees not to exceed the constitutional terms for the election of both the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister."
In conclusion, Hashimoto stressed his country's support for Iraq, standing by the Iraqi people and completing what his predecessor had begun to develop relations between the two countries.
