Member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, Aref Al-Hamami, confirmed today, Thursday, that the Kurdistan Regional Government is trying to change the demographics of Kirkuk in order to regain control over it.
Al-Hamami said in an interview with Al-Maalouma Agency, "The security and administrative agencies bear responsibility for the displacement that occurred from the Kurdistan Region to Kirkuk."
He added, "The displacement is illegal and is considered a demographic change in the reality of the province by the regional government."
He said, "The regional government sent a large number of families to Kirkuk to increase the percentage of Kurds in the province with the aim of regaining control over it."
He pointed out that "the population census will reveal real results and inventory of citizens and may reveal a number of undeclared deaths in the region." End 25/S
