[rtl]Baghdad / NINA / Prepared by Youssef Salman: Iraq launched, on Wednesday, the first national population and housing census in more than three decades, as it will provide comprehensive and accurate data to help formulate development policies and meet the needs of citizens.
Commenting on this, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) renewed its commitment to supporting the Government of Iraq in this historic initiative.
Through its technical and operational expertise, the Fund ensures that the census is carried out in accordance with the highest international standards, paving the way for comprehensive development planning.
The Fund said, in an official statement today, Wednesday, "The 2024 census represents a major breakthrough, as it relies on advanced digital technologies to ensure comprehensive coverage, including marginalized groups and remote areas such as internally displaced persons."
The United Nations Population Fund is a key partner in this major development project, working in accordance with the recommendations of the United Nations, fully adhering to international standards and utilizing modern technology. The census results and the data it provides
will be the basis for making informed decisions and comprehensive development.”
For his part, Garik Hayrapetian, Acting Representative of the United Nations Population Fund in Iraq, said, “The population census is not just numbers, it is a roadmap for the future of Iraq, and the United Nations Population Fund is committed to helping Iraq invest in this opportunity
to develop policies that serve all citizens.”
The United Nations Population Fund has dedicated its efforts to providing comprehensive technical support to the Government of Iraq in implementing the census, committed to ensuring international standards through a diverse team of international experts, and enhancing the quality and protection of data throughout the census process. This support comes within the framework of the Global Fund’s approach to strengthening population censuses.
This census also represents a historic achievement for Iraq, as it provides a comprehensive database used in formulating policies that respond to the needs of citizens and enhance economic and social development.
