With Israel filing a complaint against Iraq at the Security Council, the government of Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and political and media circles insisted that this was a “pretext” for targeting and striking Iraq by the entity’s government, which prompted the government to announce the adoption of several measures described as “urgent”, including the Prime Minister’s directive to the security forces to “prevent and pursue any military activity outside the framework of state control.”
Commenting on this, Fahd al-Jubouri, a leader in the Hikma Movement led by Ammar al-Hakim, said, “Al-Sudani promised during the last meeting of the Coordination Framework (yesterday) to take precautionary measures and secure the borders after clear messages reached Iraq about the possibility of the country being exposed to strikes.”
Al-Jubouri confirmed in a television interview that “an important regional country - whose name he did not mention - sent messages to Iraq with news of the Israeli bombing,” explaining that “the administration coalition gave the green light to the prime minister to preserve Iraq’s security.”
He continued: “The government must now take the initiative to control the internal situation, and it has pledged to do so,” indicating that “controlling the situation is not through confrontation, but rather through dialogue and talk, and the factions certainly have an important Iraqi interest.”
What can factions offer?
The leader of the government movement spoke about what he considered “an exaggeration of the extent of the factions’ targeting of Israel as a pretext to strike Iraq,” adding: “There is real bombing, but there are attempts at exaggeration and allegations for the purpose of dragging Iraq into the war, and for months Israel has been trying to do that, but America was in control and preventing it.”
Al-Jubouri says, “We do not have a solution to the Palestinian issue, as the first statement of the authority was clear that the end of this crisis is the disappearance of this entity, but what are the mechanisms of disappearance; is it by disobeying the state?”
He said, "The statement of the authority has become a map for the political forces to deal with the crisis in the region through the three paths, which are: media, diplomacy, and relief. This is the current available possibility for Iraq."
Regarding the arms restriction, Al-Jubouri said, “No one spoke about this point clearly after the Marja’iyya’s speech. Some say that what is meant is the clans’ weapons,” adding that “the Marja’iyya does not lack courage. It can issue a fatwa to go to fight, as it announced with ISIS. The problem is with those who interpret its words.”
Al-Jubouri considered that the principle of the unity of the arenas “does not necessarily mean that all the arenas are present now.”
Iraqi faction: “We are not sons of the government”
In the same program, Abbas al-Zaidi, a member of the Sayyed al-Shuhada Brigades, defended the “resistance factions,” and said that “the factions are supported legally, religiously, and heavenly, and are recognized by the United Nations.”
He pointed out that "we have legitimacy from the authority, and the speech of restricting weapons means what protects the state, but the authority will not stand in the way of the resistance."
Al-Zaidi downplayed the government’s recent measures to pursue military activities outside the country, stressing that “the factions are sons of the authority and we are not sons of the government.”
Instead, Al-Zaidi called on the Sudanese to “prevent Israel from violating Iraqi airspace.”
Iraqi workshops to develop marches
Al-Zaidi stressed that the “Iraqi resistance” is carrying out operations to attrition Israel within the principle of the unity of arenas, and he said that “the resistance is not limited to the Iraqi arena, it has multiple arenas and fields, perhaps the factions will surprise the enemy from the Indian Ocean, or from any sea or ocean.”
He explained: “We have not and will not give up on the unity of the arenas, and we will stop when the aggression on Lebanon and Gaza stops,” stressing that “we have the capabilities and potential, and the unity of the arenas means exchanging capabilities and experiences.”
He revealed that the factions have begun developing in workshops in Iraq “drones that are not just attack drones, but rather launch a missile and then attack, like what Hezbollah did. We have drones that can reach the heart of Israel.”
Al-Zaidi considered that "Israel will be involved if it decides to strike Iraq," adding that "the real war with Israel has not begun. I do not know when it will begin, it depends on developments."
“Israel does not respect the world”
Regarding the complaints that Israel filed against Iraq in the Security Council, in which it objected to the bombing of the factions, Al-Zaidi asks: “Does the Zionist entity respect international law, the Security Council, the Criminal Court, and international legitimacy?”
He pointed out that "the Zionist entity and America made the United Nations an umbrella to market Israel's policies," considering that "there is a premeditated intention by Israel to strike Iraq, and this intention appeared since Netanyahu raised the map at the United Nations."
He pointed out that "during the war with ISIS, Israel had previously bombed the crowd in the Al-Saqr camp south of Baghdad, and in other locations."
“The factions should thank Biden”
Also on the TV show, Gabriel Souma, an advisor to Donald Trump, the US President-elect, confirmed that “Israel will not bomb Iraqi territory if the factions stop.”
He added, "But otherwise, Israel will take revenge on the factions, as happened with Iran, where it destroyed all military bases and all defense systems completely, and we do not want this to happen with Iraq."
Souma explained that “Iraq has nothing to do with the events in Palestine. Palestine, America and Israel are the ones who are now discussing a solution to this crisis, not Iraq.”
Trump's advisor said that the latter's policy "will change what is happening in the Middle East, because his policy is to revive the Abraham Accords in 2016, and he is looking forward to normalizing relations with Israel with all countries. Iraq may refuse, but there are 14 Arab countries that want normalization, and we will not force Iraq to normalize relations."
He added: "The Iraqi resistance should thank President Biden (whose term has expired) because they were able to strike the Americans 200 times. When Trump is in power, they will not be able to repeat those actions."
