Baghdad/Al-Masala: Amidst the tense regional and international situations, the Iraqi government headed by Mohammed Al-Sudani finds itself facing major challenges.
Amid the escalation of the war in which Iraqi factions are participating, and the effects of regional tensions, the challenge of maintaining internal stability and avoiding escalation emerges in light of the looming changes, most notably the return of former US President Donald Trump to the White House.
This scenario raises questions about its implications for Iraq, especially in light of its complex relations with Iran and the impact of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the region.
Strategists' analysis indicates that Trump's return to power may contribute to increasing pressure on Iraq through more stringent policies towards the Iranian file, which will be reflected in the internal security situation.
“Trump will have a major impact on Iraq, as he will force the government to take a tougher stance on Iran,” sources in Baghdad said.
Other sources added that the Palestinian crisis may reshape regional priorities, placing Iraq in the circle of geopolitical transformations.
Despite these challenges, Iraq reflects relative stability in an internal context, but this stability has become a “norm” or a rule of thumb that must be maintained.
“Iraq is going through a difficult phase, but stability must be a priority, because it is the basis of the reconstruction process that we all aspire to,” a government official said in a special statement.
The Coordination Framework, which includes a group of active political forces in Iraq, appears to be resilient in the face of political crises. But proactive analyses indicate that this resilience may face a severe test if regional relations deteriorate or new internal conflicts erupt.
In contrast, Ammar al-Hakim, head of the State Forces Alliance, is considered one of the leading figures capable of offering compromises between the conflicting parties. “Al-Hakim considers maintaining political stability in Iraq a priority, as it will be the key to continuing the process of construction and reconstruction in the future, and the priority must remain security and development,” the analysis said.
“Iraq cannot afford further isolation from the world due to the growing tensions in the region,” an Iraqi source said.
This view confirms that Iraq, despite its internal challenges, seeks to maintain strategic relations with the world’s major powers. The sources believe that Iraq faces parallel challenges on the security and political levels due to the “dominance of local players’ weapons,” as armed factions continue to exercise broad influence on the ground.
A study published in international newspapers states: “Iraq needs to strengthen the strong state in order to regain its full sovereignty, but there are Kurdish and regional forces that do not want to see a strong central state controlling all aspects of government.” This analysis points to the major challenges facing Iraq on its way to strengthening the political and economic system.
In this context, analyses emerge indicating that Iraq’s long path towards political stability must face more difficulties in light of regional tensions.
“Iraq will not have many options if the regional crisis escalates. US pressure on the Iraqi government will be greater, especially with Trump returning to the White House,” a tweet on the X platform said.
