    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Former military advisor, retired Major General Safaa Al-Aasam, revealed today, Friday (November 22, 2024), the goal of Israel filing an official complaint against Iraq before the UN Security Council.
Al-Aasam said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "Israel's complaint against Iraq before the UN Security Council is a prelude to an expected and aggressive military action inside Iraqi territory. It wanted this complaint to reveal the justification and argument before the international community, and therefore there is an inevitable Israeli aggression against Iraq in the coming stage."
The former military advisor added, "The filing of this complaint by Israel reveals and confirms that this entity has determined what targets it will target in Iraq, and it certainly has a lot of information on important and vital Iraqi sites, whether official government sites or even those belonging to factions and others."
Last Monday, Tel Aviv revealed that it had called on the UN Security Council, via a letter, to take immediate action regarding the groups attacking it from Iraq, threatening what it considered the right to self-defense .
Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani responded on Tuesday (November 19, 2024) to Israel’s submission of a letter to the UN Security Council to put in place immediate measures to address attacks by armed factions, saying that this represents “a pretext and excuse to attack Iraq,” and while stressing his rejection of “these threats and entering into war,” he stressed that “the decision of war and peace is a decision in the hands of the Iraqi state .”
Al-Sudani said, while chairing the weekly session of the Council of Ministers, that "the message sent by the Zionist entity to the UN Security Council represents a pretext and excuse to attack Iraq, and to achieve the entity's ongoing efforts to expand the war in the region ."
He stressed that "Iraq rejects these threats, and that the decision of war and peace is a decision in the hands of the Iraqi state, and no party is allowed to confiscate this right," noting that "Iraq refuses to enter the war, while adhering to the principled position of ending it, and seeking to provide relief to the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples."
