{Politics: Al Furat News} A member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party announced today, Friday, that the form of the new government in the Kurdistan Region will be a "coalition" because no party won a majority of seats in the Kurdistan Parliament in the recent elections that took place last October.
Wafaa Mohammed Karim told {Euphrates News} agency: "So far, there are no negotiations between the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, and everyone is waiting for the final results of the appeals submitted to the Election Commission, which we expect to resolve this week," indicating that "after the appeals are over, the President of the Region will grant a period of time to determine the date of the parliament session."
He added, "There will be a visit by a delegation from the Democratic Party to the Patriotic Union, but so far there are no negotiations between the two parties, despite their presence with other parties.
" Karim stressed, "The regional government must be a coalition because no party or political entity in the region has the 50+1 option, and no party can form it alone, and the Democratic Party needs seats to form the government."
Yesterday, the electoral judiciary rejected "all appeals" against the results of the Kurdistan Parliament elections, which numbered 41 appeals.
The elections for the sixth session of the Kurdistan Parliament were held on October 20, and the Kurdistan Democratic Party came in first with 39 seats, and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan came in second with 23 seats.
The remaining seats, except for the 5 quota seats, were distributed as follows: New Generation Movement 15 seats, Kurdistan Islamic Union 7 seats, National Position Movement 4 seats, Kurdistan Justice Group 3 seats, People's Front 2 seats, Kurdistan Region Alliance 1 seat, and Change 1 seat.
