{Politics: Al Furat News} Parliament Speaker Mahmoud Al Mashhadani described the current international system as “amorphous and crisis-ridden.”
Al-Mashhadani said in a speech at the Middle East Peace and Security Forum at the American University in Dohuk: “We may differ, but the crisis in the Middle East is a very big challenge. Yesterday’s challenges in the Middle East are different from today’s. The maps of old crises in the Middle East have changed, and the dormant volcanoes of conflicts have moved with their old bases.”
He added, "The contracts of the old fragile peace and the new peace were scattered with the visions of Trump in his first term and Biden in his term, and we await Trump's second term. What is happening today has shaped what I can call in my political effort: 'the vital space of the second Nakba'. The challenges in the Middle East can be summarized in the determinants of the failure of the global international system, which has failed, as it is a gelatinous system."
Al-Mashhadani continued, "The international system today is neither an American pole system nor a system of multiple poles, reconciled or conflicting, but rather a system in crisis. The model of the Middle East in its challenges, the latest of which were the Gaza and Lebanon wars, is a model that made a small occupied country an effective political international pole, even if it is rejected by society due to its repeated holocausts. Among the challenges of the Middle East is the lack of mechanisms to confront desertification, heat, and climate change in the Middle East."
He expressed his "pessimism about managing the crises and challenges facing the Middle East, from the Gaza and Lebanon wars to the multiple wars in Syria to the US and Israel's conflict with Iran to unemployment, climate, and fluctuating oil prices, all the way to the Middle Eastern political system. The disaster in the challenges of the Middle East is that the matter is nothing but a crisis yesterday, today, and perhaps tomorrow."
