BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and four of his ministers face political and constitutional embarrassment on the backdrop of a constitutional violation of one of the provisions of the Iraqi Nationality Law of 2006, in conjunction with parliamentary demands to reconsider the elected ministers after information about their affiliation with the outlawed Baath party is circulated.
Paragraph 4 of Article 18 of the Iraqi Constitution and article 9 paragraph IV of the Iraqi Nationality Law of 2006 states that "an Iraqi with another nationality may not assume a sovereign position."
In addition to Abdul-Mahdi, who holds French citizenship, four ministers have a nationality other than Iraq: the Minister of Electricity holds British citizenship, the Minister of Health has US citizenship, while Finance Minister Fouad Hussein holds Dutch citizenship, as well as with the Secretary of State who has US citizenship.
The French newspaper Le Figaro said in a report published last week that Prime Minister Adel Abdel Mahdi, who spoke with Emmanuel Makron on October 20, speaks French, where he has remained for more than 30 years in France and his wife is still living there.
The lawyer Othman al-Jubouri announced (October 16) that he filed an appeal to the Federal Supreme Court, on the unconstitutionality of the order of President Barham Saleh by assigning Adel Abdul-Mahdi as prime minister to own the latter French nationality.
"If Mr. Adel Abdul Mahdi does not relinquish his French nationality, the president's order will be considered as the commissioning of Mr. Adel Abdul Mahdi," Jubouri said.
The independent member of the House of Representatives Kazem Sayadi said this month, Abdul Mahdi, "to drop his French nationality, and the return of a million dollars to the state," calling in a statement received by "the eye of Iraq News," he said, "Abdul Mahdi to disclose his money and the money of his family, Talked about the disbursement of his office a million dollars and return the money to the Iraqi treasury. "
The author, Mohammed al-Rubaie, commented on the subject by saying: "If the constitutional provisions are not complied with in the conditions of receiving positions, including the renunciation of dual nationality, no citizen is required to respect the law and the constitution and he is in a solution to any other conditions that obligate him to discipline and respect the law, Leading them to violate the laws in all transparency and clarity and without shame, this rule is a legitimate right against those who violate the sovereignty of Iraq !! ".
The expert and political analyst Hisham al-Hashemi that "Abdul-Mahdi failed in his first task, most of the ministers and party figures or relatives of officials in the state."
"The Iraqi street is surprised that most of the members of the government are not technocrats, as promised by Abdul Mahdi, but the nominations of the Iraqi political blocs, which" caused a great disappointment. "
Abdul-Mahdi is facing fierce criticism over the choice of ministers who are close to 70 or older, such as oil, planning, health and foreign ministers, as well as reports of their affiliation with the outlawed Baath party.
Mr Bloomberg said Abdul Mahdi was a good analyst of his country's problems, but his ministerial choices showed he had failed in his first hurdle, and his choices were not a solution to the problems he had put forward.
In parallel, the MP in the stream of wisdom, Jassim Mohan al-Bekhati, revealed the existence of a parliamentary movement to call the Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi to find alternative figures for ministers accused of terrorism, corruption, accountability and justice.
Al-Bekhati told "Iraq's News" that "the alternative figures are from the same political blocs, which are the ministries are within the eligibility of the election."
The media reported information about the transfer of three ministers from the government of Adel Abdul-Mahdi to the accountability and justice after the receipt of information with files of corruption and other violations of the laws.
It is noteworthy that the spokesman for the Supreme National Commission for Accountability and Justice, Fares Bakoua, confirmed that a meeting will be scheduled to determine the members of the Commission for scrutiny and the issuance of the appropriate decision ministers of the government of Abdul Mahdi.
