{International: Al Furat News} The White House announced that US President Donald Trump accepted the invitation of Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, to deliver his speech on the state of the union on February 4.
The call for an annual speech in Congress comes at a tumultuous political moment, with Trump being accused of abuse of power and obstructing the work of Congress, and he is now facing a Senate trial, almost certain that will end with his acquittal.
It is expected that the confrontation will be fiery between Trump and Pelosi, the woman who launched the official investigation against him, who ended up being accused.
Pelosi sent a letter to Trump saying, "In the spirit of respecting our constitution, I invite you to deliver your speech on the state of the union to a joint session of Congress on February 4, 2020."
Trump accepted "the call of the Speaker of the House," according to a White House spokesman, Hogan Gidley.
Pelosi's letter consists of 3 paragraphs that stress the principle of the separation of powers that the American Constitution affirms.
Trump will deliver the speech in the House of Representatives, in the same legislative chamber that was referred on Wednesday to trial by the Senate.
During the State of the Union speech in 2019, Pelosi seemed to make fun of Trump by applauding it in an exaggerated manner that turned into a material to mock social media.
Their relationship has gotten worse since then.
On the eve of his referral to trial, Trump wrote an angry 6-page letter to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, accusing her of "waging an open war against American democracy."
