The ministry's spokesman, Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi, said in a statement to the official news agency, and IQNEWS followed  him , that his ministry “has policies and strategic plans to reduce poverty in the country, including the strategy to combat poverty in Iraq, which it launched in 2018 and continues until 2022, as well as the five-year development plan 2018-2022. It includes enabling the poor to achieve income, housing, education, and improve their living conditions. "
He added that the ministry is working to support the poorest villages in the governorates by establishing the Social Fund for Development, which is one of the formations of the Ministry of Planning, indicating that the fund’s work includes implementing service projects, health centers, schools, and municipal services such as water, electricity and roads in these villages.
Al-Hindawi added that these projects “achieve two things, the first is the provision of services, and the second is the provision of job opportunities to contribute to achieving income for families in the targeted areas, explaining that“ the choice of the project is made by the people of the village and has been implemented as a first stage in ten villages for each of the governorates of Muthanna and Salah al-Din. Dohuk. "
He pointed out that " a number of projects have been implemented , " stressing that in the second phase will be the inclusion of other provinces the same mechanism and selection of the poorest villages in the current year " .
He continued, "Among the strategy of the Ministry of Planning is to increase the allocations of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs to improve the income of the poor through two paths. The first is to increase allocations for the social protection network in order to be able to increase the salary provided to families while increasing financial allocations to include new families in the social protection network, and the second track is to increase the amounts. support through loans for small projects for unemployed youth to provide entry to their families and provide them with an adequate stability " .
On the ranking of the poorest governorates, the Ministry of Planning spokesperson explained that Muthanna is the poorest governorate with 52% of its population, followed by Diwaniyah and Dhi Qar with 47%, then the central and southern governorates and finally the western governorates, indicating that the poverty rate in the Kurdistan region is the lowest in the country. .
He pointed out that Baghdad tops the provinces that have the most poor, because it represents the largest population bloc in Iraq, followed by Nineveh, the second largest population bloc.
