On Monday, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Iraqi embassy in Tehran had handed over a protest note, against the backdrop of the siege of the Iranian consulate building in Karbala by protesters.
"A number of individuals attacked the Iranian consulate in Karbala," ministry spokesman Saeed Khatib said in a press statement on May 10.

Khatib confirmed, "immediate communication by the consulate (in Karbala) and the Iranian embassy in Baghdad with the concerned Iraqi authorities," indicating that the security forces "responded to the aggressors."
The spokesman added, "Yesterday evening we presented a protest note to the Iraqi embassy in Iran, and what we expect from the Iraqi government is to fulfill its responsibilities in the best possible way."
Large crowds participated in the funeral ceremony of al-Wazzani, on Sunday May 9, in the streets of Karbala to the shrine of Imam Hussein, amid chants denouncing the Iranian intervention in Iraq, as militia activists loyal to the Iranian leader Ali Khamenei held responsibility for the assassination of the activist and previous operations that affected protesters and personalities Actor.
The funeral marches turned into angry demonstrations in the city center and near the Iranian consulate building, which was surrounded by young men and set fire to it, before the police intervened and announced "control of the situation."
